Student employees are a great way to fill the void left by regular-staff vacations.
As the mercury continues to rise, visions of short-haul holidays at the family cottage and longer trips to enjoy all that Manitoba and Canada have to offer are beginning to occupy a bigger piece of all our minds. And while you no doubt appreciate your employees' needs for a well-deserved holiday, filling the voids while they're away can sometimes be challenging.
One way to keep the wheels turning in the right direction during the holiday season can be likened to the buddy system. By cross-training employees in your organization, you not only ensure smooth sailing during the dog days of summer, you also create an opportunity for your employees to appreciate the contributions of their co-workers while creating a versatile workforce.
If cross-training doesn't fit with the processes in your company, Barb Bowes of Legacy Bowes Group recommends looking to student employees for summer relief in this increasingly competitive labour market.
"Business leaders who are struggling to schedule impending employee holidays can benefit from the pool of student employees," says Bowes. "Customer service levels are key to the success of a business and those levels can't be compromised just because you're working with a skeleton staff."
