Confused about the overtime legislation in your province?

The chart below shows each province’s maximum hours before overtime, as well as the associated overtime payment:


Province Maximum Hours Before Overtime and Overtime Payment
Alberta Wage X 1.5 after 8 hours a day or 44 hours a week
BC (Daily) Wage X 1.5 after 8 hours, double after 12 hours
BC (Weekly) Wage X 1.5 after 40 hours, wage X 2 after 48 hours
Manitoba Wage X 1.5 after 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week
New Brunswick Not less than minimum wage X 1.5 after 44 hours a week ($11.63 min.)
Newfoundland Not less than minimum wage X 1.5 after 40 hours a week ($12.75 min.)
Nova Scotia Not less than minimum wage X 1.5 after 48 hours a week
Nunavut Wage X 1.5 after 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week
Northwest Territories Wage X 1.5 after 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week
Ontario
